This past weekend saw the media giant Clear Channel give birth to the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. Among acts such as Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Lil Wayne, Pitbull and Brad Paisley, Green Day squeezed in (and some might say fit in quite nicely). Well, it looks like the commoditization of punk rock has finally bit Green Day in the ass. Watch what happens as they get preempted with a performance by Rhianna and Usher.
UPDATE: According to the band's Facebook page, the whole debacle was due to Billie Joe's substance abuse problem rather than playing a douche-y festival. See for yourself:
"Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse. We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances."
Then, if you take a look at the video below, the what-seems-like-a-bullshit excuse suddenly seems totally legit as Billie Joe looks whammered (tatered, obliverated, fandangled,) as the band does an interview w/ (wait for it) Kennedy (from MTV circa the '90s fame) prior to their performance.
Shoulda stuck to playing the Double Down, eh Billie?
